Away from the madding crowd of Patong, Karon and Kata, this Italian restaurant in Nai Harn close the southern tip of the island has it all. It is quiet yet exciting, unprepossessing yet inviting, off the beaten track yet close to the action, but quite clearly catching on fast.
So what’s its secret? Well, every good restaurant needs one very important feature: a damn good cook and DaVinci has just that. Chef John and his team are exploiting this pretty obvious secret to the full and getting a great reputation for great food at a sensible price. The dishes are traditionally simple but the presentation is sophisticated, prepared with fresh ingredients bought locally each day.
It’s not just the mouth-watering pasta dishes that have built up the reputation of this restaurant, but the main courses are equally as splendid with beef form Australia, white snapper and other superb seafood all with that wonderful Mediterranean flavour. The pizzas are thin crust and cooked in a traditional wood fired oven. Complimenting the meal is a wide selection of Italian wines, and for aperitif some pretty impressive cocktails. After a dinner such as this, it is only fitting that it be topped off with a ‘DaVinci Coffee Martini’.
The décor is modern and customers have the option of eating al fresco or indoors. If choosing to eat outside as most people seem to prefer, there is a spacious breezy courtyard interspersed with shrubs; if inside, the interior is open sided with parquet flooring, ceiling fans, a sofa, bar, and adorned with modern art. Hanging on one wall is a tapestry which adds a touch of authenticity to the Italian atmosphere. Chunky style countryside crockery, good quality cutlery, and white linen tablecloths complete the mood of Italy with ‘a touch of class’. For those of you blessed with rug rats (children to the more high brow amongst you), there is a play area adjacent to the wood fired oven.
The “V” Lounge, a new Cocktail & Wine Bar, opens every day serving Coffee and Croissants in the morning and Cakes & Ice Cream in the afternoon. As the evening descends, the “V” Lounge is transformed into a Cocktail & Wine Bar, with relaxing music and comfortable sofas where guests can enjoy a Cocktail or a Glass of Wine before or after dinner.
So now the code is broken, there is no excuse not to exploit it; is there?
